Hello.
I am interested in hatching my own eggs. I have a mixed rare breed flock. The rooster (we just have one) is a barlender (something like that) anyways. What the heck does sex-link mean?

If i breed 2 different breeds is that what they are going to be called?

I tried looking/searching for the answer and couldnt locate it anywhere, if you find it, my apoligizes.

Breeding two different breeds will give you as you may guess - Mutts.

The "barlander" is a Barnvelder.

Sex Links are a high producing hybrid, created by either a silver or a barred female and a non-silver or non-barred male. It allows for the offspring, such as yours, to be sexable at either hatch or as soon as they feather out.

Here is the THE ultimate sexlink explaination but it tends to go over the heads of some https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=261208

And
here is the sexlink thread where I put a simpler explaination and pics of mine. https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=375015

If
your roo is a Barnevelder as Illia suggested, then he is both Gold gened and non barred and will work for making both Black and Red Sexlinks. Breed him to any breed of barred hens and you will get Black sexlinks and breed him to hen Silver Gene hens and you will get Red Sexlinks.
