first peacock....UPDATE NEW PIX

Makes me wish I'd bought the peahen that sold earlier....might have had a pair!

I paid $15. for her...I thought that was okay. But what do I know...

I found peacocks for sale on craigslist. I emailed and it just so happens that they got them from the same auction. Apparently they're Java Green. So much for free ranging them...right?

More like spalding, would be rare to find pure Java at an auction. They sell for a few hundred for a pair. Would never free range high dollar birds like pure greens.

Yes on the greens, can sex them like the blue, as the female color out lot like the males.

The person I spoke to through emails met the guy who brought them to auction. He raises javas. She said usually they bring $75.00 a piece at auction. She bought two cocks. She showed me a picture of rust color on the wing tips of the males. Does that sound right?

I think I'll buy her 2.

Everything I've read says that java greens will take off and not return, so don't free range.

Yes there is no Emerald java, problem with people calling them java, java are pure green.

They are Spalding, yes could see them selling for 50.00. They dont sell much more than blues.

Spalding come in many colors, and are cross of the blues and greens, dont breed true either.

I'm going to pick up those other 2 birds from the same auction as well as another hen today. I can't turn down the offer. All 3 for $90.

I'm hoping to free range them eventually. I brought the hen outside in a cage yesterday. She managed to escape and went back into her barn.

I'd better get building a pen to start out. Would they prefer to live in a wooded area or out in the open, full sun? I have both options available.

Good price, odd they would sell ones they just bought.

Peafowl do like to roost high in trees. Would keep pen for a few months, or they may run off.
