I started out with 14 Bielefelder eggs, 2 infertile and 1 stopped growing. The remaining 11 looked like they should on the

day I candled them.
I'm excited!!!

Hi,
This is what my first pip looks like after 24 hours its day 20. Should I do anything?

I see its beak still picking at the shell, but its going the wrong way???
So far 7 have pipped.
Thanks,
Joyce

You mean because it's pipped down? Usually they expand the hole a bit before they start zipping, but there could be something more going on. Do you have the ability to play a you tube video near the bator?? If so, find a video of chicks chirping (I use 'one day old chicks chirping), and play it by the incubator, or on the incubator (I use my phone) and see if that motivates him first. When I have pippers and zippers I'll play that a few times and make sure that they are being motivated and let it rest and do it again. If he's ok in there, you don't want to go in, but if there's a problem, interfering could mean chick or no chick. I'd say if you play chick sounds and see a lot of movement he's probably alright, if not, you may want to check it real quick (pull it out and pull the outer membrane back a bit to check and just make sure he's not glued by the inner membrane having dried out.) Or you could just skip to the checking part.

I should add though, that by the looks of the outer membrane (nice dry and white) it doesn't appear that he should be glued. But there's always things outside the norm.

Read this thread yesterday.
Read the part about playing the chick sounds for them. Thought I would try.
My duck eggs had internally pipped by yesterday morning but hadn't caught them even wobble all day, but I wasn't watching them constantly . So last night about 11 I found a duck and a cricket ring tone on my phone and started alternating back and forth playing both for them , the next thing I know one starts wobbling and peeping, a few minutes later on another egg I received my first external pip.
Now I have two still waiting on 3 more.
They haven't made a whole yet
But they are still talking here and there
I keep playing the ring tones for them
To incourage them.
