First post.......first chickens...first problem???

Went camping this weekend...............luckily we did not see one.


Is that the only way they it is transmitted???

got her Dec 30. I did not notice it but when i look at the photos i see the tiny bum p which is not a hugh gross growth.


you can see it a few days ago on my BYC page. On Friday is was swollen shut since it's on her eye lid. I was thinking dry pox usually shows up in a few spots but she only has one. Her combs are so small I'm glad there are not any there.

I saw the picture of her we talked about it being herpes virus, is she the only one you got from this individual?

nope............got 2 babies from him, both about 2 months old...........the other one had a sneeze that i treated with oral antibiotics. Just my luck!! But the other one does not show any signs of the Dry Poxs....YET??

These are the only chickens i have..SO FAR!!

Well since this one only has it on her eye, maybe your other one won't get it. Keep us updated on how she's doing. But I hope this won't discourage you from getting more chickens, they are such a joy, and basically hardy. But sometimes where you get them from has alot to do with their health, as I am sure you know.

Thanks for the support and well wishes.........luckily I have raised animals all my life and can DEAL!! Planning on adding one more baby once this is cleared up and I feel it's safe!!

** UPDATE**

The girls are finally back to normal. The growth started to scab a few days back and fell off today.,

Both young hens NOW seem to be acting normal and healthy...........FINALLY!!

I think is was DRY POX since the breeder said he had it on his property........but one will never know!!
