Hello!
I have lurked on these boards for some time but finally made an account. My fiance and I moved onto a 10 acre plot this past summer and I knew it would be the perfect place to raise chickens. Little did I know just how much joy they would bring into my life and how in love with them I would become! We bought 10 chicks of varying breeds from Tractor Supply this past fall (they got about 50% of the breeds right
) and just when I thought it couldn't get any more fun, they just started laying eggs for us a few weeks ago. We have 2 sapphire gems, 2 easter eggers, 2 isa browns, 2 brown leghorns, 1 australorp, and 1 chicken that I think is a cream leghorn cross - I want to pick your brains about her breed and will make a post about her.
I am also a small animal veterinarian and I so appreciate the community that BYC has made to help chicken owners, especially those that live too far away to receive veterinary care, as best they can. You guys have also given me great ideas that I use and pass along - I am amazed how creative you all are! I can tell you that chicken owners are among my favorite clients - you are all so genuinely nice! Since we starting raising our own chickens I feel much more confident diagnosing and helping chicken patients when they come in, as well as have a newfound respect for all the work owners put into raising their birds! Thank you for all you do and keep up the good work
