Question - do the four four-patches have to match in a block, or how scrappy can/should we go?

blues and creams for the 4 patch chain and man colors for the larger blocks so color 1 will be any color or colors fabric pattern you choose as long as it is manly and for colors 2 and 3 will be blues and creams of your choice. here is the link for the instructions and this makes a 12 inch block,

so for the larger blocks can be all one color or mixed your choice just so long as the chain block is cream and blue I hope that answers your question and I didn't confuse you

Yes, I have the block pdf printed out. I understand the color scheme. I was asking about the four 4-patches that go up the middle. Do they all have to match each other, or, within the color scheme, can they be different?

Sorry the ones in the 4 patch that go up the middle keep the same in its block, but can be different from block to block. does that make since?

The smaller 4 patches are to be Blue and Cream in all the blocks is that correct?
Does the blue in these four patches need to be the same blue through out our blocks?

Each block has three fabrics. The main fabric has to be a manly fabric and the chain consists of blue and a creme fabric. The layout should be the same as in the picture with the creme down the center. From what I understand each of the 25 blocks can be different but within the block the same creme, blue and manly fabric are used. so there should be no more then 3 fabrics used in each block, no different blues, no different cremes and no different manly fabrics within the same block.

What I wonder about is using a 6 1/2 inch square instead of 4 blocks of 3 1/2 inch square.

Please jump in and correct if I put this wrong.

Anna6 one problem I can see with the 6 1/2 " square is that the rest of this fabric would be cut into small pieces making another pattern, while the 6 1/2 " one would be whole. When we joined the 12 1/2" blocks together we would have a third pattern emerge. Besides the 4 patch chain and the pattern where the 4 patches come together. I hope this makes sense.

I am not sure how it would be different from sewing four 3 1/2 in. squares together to make a 6 1/2 in. square. I just made a block and decided to make the four identical fabrics into a 6 1/2 in. square. It is a lot easier. I am not sure if we are talking about the same thing. It looks weird sewing the 4 squares of the same fabric together. In quilting you only do th[IMG]

at if the fabric is different. I will try and post pictures. This also avoids all the seams running into each other.
