We have 21 cornish for meat, ours are 7 weeks old.

I already have a plague... chicken fever. Causes chicken math.

I just need a plaque certifying that I am indeed crazy...

Moorigan- I wonder if it is too much protein also. I know you fed the same last time, but maybe it was less fermented or maybe something was different somehow. I really am not an expert... just think too much protein is not good for these little monsters. Causes frankenbirds like everyone talks about.

Linda- I bet you can still hatch the eggs. Maybe fewer will hatch, maybe not. Maybe they will be just fine!

Another thought is that it is spring and there are bugs and worms that could be giving them even more protein.

Thanks everyone. I will switch them over to 100% flock feeder, which I think is 14%. I was trying to do what I did last year, but maybe I was already mixing in less turkey grower by this time -- or maybe this batch of grower was heavier in protein. I'll make better notes this year. I'd rather butcher at 10 or 12 weeks with healthy birds. I so wish I could completely free range them. They are in a very large chicken yard with bushes and everything, but it is still a yard and gets picked too clean for real forage.

Well I am prepping for a very sad hen cull tomorrow. Its my hen with no beak. I dont know how she lost it. But she is losing weight and her crop is always empty. I have been dropping grain in her mouth and she eats it but its still not enough to fill her crop...

Pretend to develop a very tight dependent relationship with a roo....

Bring it in the house, bathe it. Groom it, set a place for it at the table. Watch TV with it. Drink beer and talk to it. In other words make your hubby think you have went off your rocker. When he suggests you need help take him up on it.


When it is time for the "appointment" you leave, when you come back, (from Staples or Kinkos) you will have with you a very real looking doctors note saying you need continued counseling and under no circumstances should anything happen to the rooster as you are too fragile to deal with it now....



And PRESTO CHANGO!! You have a CX rooster.. and you get an hour-90 minutes to yourself to go where ever you want each week.

Thanks TT. If u raise raise chickens and dont get attached there is something wrong with u. They r just the perfect pet...
