First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Feel better soon JR, and you to Ant Farm. I went to Kentucky for work last week - 118 with the heat index. Nope, not for me! I'll keep my Northern Climes, including the 3feet of snow in winter. I can add layers, but I'd get arrested taking off as much as needed to try to cool down!

Oh, I'm not sick, it's just hot out. I have good AC, so I canned all day yesterday instead of outdoor chores. Fig jam with thyme, fig quarters in whiskey, raspberry jam (5 pints!!!), and lots and lots of peach BBQ sauce (yum!)

Okra pickling and cucumber fridge pickles tonight.

WHY?? I would rather have boiled peanuts ( another southern dish that turns my tummy)!!!

I have never heard of fig jam.... or fig quarters in whiskey.

Pickled okra are yummy!!! You know what, though, here's a secret - I think okra is best RAW and fresh out of the garden! No slime at all, very crisp, fresh, and green tasting. I've heard raw okra are good for heartburn - no idea if that's true. I just know that every year I grow them, when I'm back there harvesting, I just eat them off the plants and nothing's ever left to carry inside. The only other thing I do that with is snow peas...
Fig jam is AWESOME. Figs in whiskey doubly so.

(And I have to agree with you - I'm originally from Georgia, so this may be sacrilege, but I think boiled peanuts are nasty...)

Well it's a whole different ball park with boiled peanuts ( if made right? I agree with you on the spinach though rarely will I find some I can even eat but just keep in mind something like 90% of all "American food" started in the south and just spread everywhere with small changes along the way
