First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

4.5 weeks and they're starting to get a bit of shape about them.

Just butchered 2 of the CX. Was going to wait for a couple more weeks, but got a hankering for a chicken dinner. #1 is going to get fried, and #2 is going to be roasted. Old roosters are scheduled for tomorrow, but they'll get canned.

Congrats! Can't wait to hear how your dinners taste!

Thanks Dave, the dark cornish crossed with the slow broilers is giving more bone, need to work on width

That's a nice cross

Will be very interesting to see what weights it makes and at what speed it matures.
I guess the white on the slow broiler wasn't dominant.

I'm looking at similar crosses this year & next so looking forward to seeing your results & with all the crosses your producing it's going to be interesting

Well, what with the heat and flies, I only processed 2 roosters today, an easter egger and a Jersey Giant. But, those 2 roosters made 4 quarts of canned chicken!
Also sent a PM to NiftyChicken, suggesting they should take some of those "My pet makes me breakfast" tees, and on the back they could put a chicken head, with eyes and tongue popping out, and a fist wrapped around it's neck. Underneath it could say "....and dinner!"
He didn't sound too enthusiastic.
