First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Sent 35 birds to camp. I went ahead and just skinned them. The rain started up AGAIN.
My brothers help consisted of removing them from the kill cone, and then washing them. Lol and drinking a mix drink and shaking his head.
Just the little he was able to do helped me tremendously.
I saved 5 of the Cx for an attempt at the next experiment. Two males and three females. All 5 are well feathered and have no difficulty walking. Got them in their own pen where they are safe from the other chickens and i can manage their feed

Good luck on the future breeding...

Not looking while wielding an axe towards a chickens neck can cause you to get the nickname "stumpy"......
that is for sure..or even a knife LOL...hence the pruners ... which worked better than I expected.

To say I'm wore out is an understatement. Told my brother to give me a couple days recuperating and we would catch a mess of catfish and clean them.
I will have a wizbang chicken plucker or equivalent before i try and do anymore high numbers. 50 birds would probably kill me.

Well I've had a disappointing night, candled 30 eggs in my Incy and only have 11 with any life in them

All 11 are 11 of my 12 Cornish eggs which are very important to me so thats good news but some of the eggs that were duds were breeding you just can't get, the Hubbard Cornishx crossed with Ixworth would have been a good addition to my blood line, so would have been very interesting to my project but not vital and there was 6 BL Wyndotte bantams for the wife so again not vital

Im going to try realllllll hard Not to put anymore eggs in the incubator. Ideally I would wait for the F1 stock to get to breeding age, cull heavily THEN incubate. Seriously doubt if I have the will power though,an empty incubator is an affront to nature!! :)

Molpet,i cut the end of one of my fingers off in a car window regulator, for all intents and purposes,a giant pair of scissors.Cut bone and all. They reattached it.I could NEVER use pruners....shudders...lol

On another note, the reduction of the total protein content worked EXACTLY as I'd hoped.I didn't restrict the feed. The innards were alot healthier looking. They were not encased in fat.
