First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

I have 3 coops. 2 have runs and the big one is open to free range with the cats and Horse. I fear more for my caged chickens than my free range ones. I guess it's the thought of being trapped with nowhere to go that worries me. Plus if I cage them my cats would have to ask and not be able to ride the 2nd in command hen "Big @$$" . She is a black austrolorp x gold spitzhauben and she is my biggest hen. The cats ride on her back and she keeps them bug free. Plus if I keep my flock caged then who is going to eat all the horse feed next door? The horse won't eat it.

Not to mention! If I cage everyone then the dog from down the road won't come around and I won't have anyone to throw snowballs or mud balls at. I need to practice my throwing so I can pitch for my daughter come spring.

I have to admit my stress levels are off the charts. Work is driving me nuts and now My chickens are doing who knows what?!!! They might start running round with one of the neighbors "wild" chickens from across the ditch!!! Ohhhh the shame!!

My stress level has been high too, work off the hook and one of my hens (I only got 2!) molted like worst ever and then the other hen went all broody to molt crazy and started picking on her buddy... all because work messed with me getting home to release them. So now I release them before I go to work (Chickens are not awake yet when I head off to work) and then rush home before it gets dark to make sure they are safely up... but I worry about them because they are still snoozing when I open the coop and the raccoons, opossums, etc, are still roaming around. But the rough looking hen is looking better. I also have tweaked their feed to try and get more nutrients into them.

So hugs and here is to hoping your birds do not become poultry delinquents and start hanging out with those poultry from across the the wrong side of the ditch! LOL

What is your weather like? Is it green? Are there bugs?

If so tweaking the feed is not all that necessary, they will find the nutrients in what ever they much on while free ranging.

You should sit them down and explain the dangers of crossing the ditch and becoming a gang member though.

Got to come home for the weekend,Birdsare all doing alot better.
Ralph it never gets cold enough for long enough to stop the foliage around here. Plenty of bugs although lizards are getting scarce.:)
