First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

Welcome Chaos. My approach has been haphazard at best. I've cycled through different breeds of rooster with probably 7 different breeds of hens and let nature take it's course. My latest was the addition of Saipan game fowl to the mongrels running rampant. I like extremes. And have had some truly strange results.lol after I see which direction the offspring are leaning,I send the roosters to camp and try something different.

Thank you very much Ralphie. I have transferred the "instructions " to my mating book. I have been color coding my experiments with zip ties. So far I have
green = BA× gold spitzhauben
Orange = rir × gold spitzhauben or
BA × silver spitzhauben
Yellow = WL × silver or gold spitzhauben

So far green is biggest and the best layer and yellow just fell short in every way.

This year I'm crossing green back to a BA and also to a coocko marans. That's just for kicks though. I'm going to try for the toads as well but I want a "heritage " variety as well.

Thank you for the warm Welcome. In the spirit of Ralphie's Toads I plan on making something similar, Hamsters. I have a big rooster that I think would make a great foundation for meat birds. He's 1/2 Partridge Chantecler, 1/4 Jersey Giant & 1/4 Black Java, with a cushion comb. My plan is as follows.

Current Cockerel to CX = Squirrel
Squirrel to CX = Gerbil
Gerbil to Gerbil = Hamster

That's my plan. No clue if it will work or not but you'll never know unless you try.

I think Hamsters sound amazing!! I might have to trade you toads for hamsters someday! What I am picturing is a large frame bird with a tad smaller chest than a toad, because of the PC. BUT much larger thighs and legs.

I am thinking it will be a dark colored bird on a white skin, which I really like. I find the dark feathers easier to see and pick off the birds when cleaning.

Those are the results I'm hoping for. I've always wanted to incubate Hamster eggs.

Ralphie you need a Buckeye rooster! They have huge legs and decent sized breasts but not too big... Lucky would have been good for that too.

ETA I meant Ralphie not Sophie. Stupid auto correct.
