First Run of Cornish Cross Meat Birds and Super Excited!

OK i need 2 update. I found out we accidentally got 35, even though we only ordered 30. Sadly, one died a couple days ago. so now we have only 34.:hit it had a wonky leg, and couldn't get feed or water because the other chicks jostled it around. i tried to give it food and water.. it wouldn't take it though.
Sorry to hear you lost a bitty. The wonky leg was most likely a slipped tendon. It happens sometimes. It can be genetic or environmental(http://www.thepoultrysite.com/publications/6/diseases-of-poultry/220/slipped-tendon-perosis/ ). Genetics cannot be helped if you are not the breeder. If you know one slipped a tendon, watch the diet(vitamins) on the others, as they may have a tendency to do the same...

That's a shame. I have two questions about sourcing my broilers, label rouge broilers. I don't want to end up with bad genetics. Although I could buy breeders from Hubbard or Sasso, they come in huge orders. I was wondering where I can purchase the broilers, nameabley their NN label rouge.

Ralph, as usual I agree with you. Most of the people now days would probably be put off by the texture of a mature bird. All my roosters get used for soups, gumbo ect. I go into it expecting them to be tough. So I boil em realllllll good

TGP, Metzer Farms carries the Hubbard broilers. They also deal in small numbers. I'm still thinking about the imperials. I had to replace a front and rear tire on my 48 Ferguson tractor. Kind of put a hitch in my giddy up

Welcome to my world. I haven't been able to source a semi local Sasso supplier of SMALL QUANTITY

Wish we lived closer mate.

Here are the Sasso I bred myself at 6 weeks along with some Sasso x Marans white cockerels.
