My layers started drinking a lot less water when I started fermented feed, the cx have been on it since I got them...Im also wondering if it will help keep them hydrated in the coming texas heat. To my simplistic thinking,it should.Right???

I would think that not having to drink water to hydrate the dry food would help.. Even if you soak the food overnight it should help. The fermentation is not the kind that produces alcohol...It is like sour kraut or yogurt...I wish I could ferment something to make alcohol in 3 days.. I would be rich LOL
It was the hottest day so far today at 88.. about 15 higher than yesterday.. has been in the 70's or lower.. the cx and BBB turkeys were panting and standing in the extra water dish. So not a miracle cure for everything.

it has a fermenting odor , like sourdough. so it is fermenting but no it is not a complete conversion like spent barley from a brewery.I am the saint in our relationship she is a reforming witch, on her mothers side..
In all seriousness Molpet, I wonder how much fermenting you really get in 3 days. It could actually be such a small amount to not make the drastic changes in protein level and starch conversion. I would doubt it is anywhere near a complete conversion.
If three days of wet feed qualifies as "fermented Feed" . I feed it when it rains or if they are down to the fines and I decide they are cleaning them up before I give them new feed, (not meaties) and mix water with the left over fines.
LOL yep a lttile more protienStarted mine yesterday, its got steady bubbles the size of dimes. I used water that had collected from the rain in a wading pool. Figured the mosquito larva were an added bonus.
looks nice.. wide w/- the typical cx squatty stance
