we were careful to hand raise our egg layer pets the first year and ready the kids for the meat birds. they seem to have made the transition well. we have enough CX that they do not get attached and I remind them of the harvest date coming. this year we got a few more egg layers to raise so they focus their attention on them.

Do you keep lights on your birds 24/7?

at 5 weeks I've just turned off the light, so no heat day or night going forward, I am still covering the food at night as well. they are happy, healthy, clean and huge.

I tell you I could put a stick through the Bishop Rangers, put them on the BBQ and they would feed 2 people at only 2 weeks old.

The Marans crosses are just as big but without as much Breast meat already.

Ha you might be right JR, the chick in the pic is a hybrid x hybrid which I'm calling Bishop Ranger.

The Marans cross are about the same size but without the meat on them.
Will be interesting to see if any look like your beauty
