I would find it nice to raise my own meat birds, and I would understand that I would eat them and wouldn't name them, but I'd get attached. I try to buy meat from farms that raise their meaties like the people here at BYC.

Have you ever thought about quail? With your yard, and the landscape. It might be a better fit.

One of the main problems I have with raising true CX is the number I have to buy to make it worth while. I like to process at least 25 at a time

That is a downfall of CX. I've thought about quail but I'm already chicken obsessed.

Anyone here heard of the royal and imperial broilers? The imperial has bigger legs and the royal has smaller legs and bigger breasts. They are both slow growing rustic broilers, and they grow a bit faster than dual purpose. There is also the robust white, a colored broiler crossed with a Cornish Cross.

They also apparently have more flavor and texture than the cx. I'm getting this info from the hatchery.
