Thanks they are adorable. One more hatched this morning. So the one with membrane attached dried up and was put in Broder last night. So 7 in Broder 1 drying out and on piping. Can't count before they hatch but today is 21 so we are hoping for 10 to hatch. 2 eggs are very still and we are not to sure about them.

Well sad to end this on day 21 but we have . Total in brooder is 9 health adorable baby silkies. We hatched both regular silkies that made it past day 7. We hatched 7 that are frizzle/sizzle silkies and one lone black frizzle/sizzle is a showgirl. I have pics from the eggtopsy on Samantha's phone and will get them up here asap. There was no movement from the last 3 eggs so we went in to take a look, but we were to late. 2 malpostioned and one quitter that was deformed. 2 were naked necks and one black silkie. Its a bummer but it happens.

So after I took a good look at some 12 week old marans and welsummers that a hen hatched for us earlier this year. I know for a fact we wont be getting any welsummer eggs from them. Both are roos. And the bcm which we knew long ago we had one roo and what we thought was 3 hens turns out we have 2 hens and 2 roos.So we now realize that we need more welsummers if we want those terracotta colored eggs. and more bcm to build a flock of breeders and retiring the less than perfect hens to the hen house for those dark chocolate colored eggs. so I am going to clean up the incubator and plug her in to dry out and stabilize and try to source us some eggs from a member here that is @2hours south of us. I am excited to get some non shipped eggs and give it another run this year. But im not really sure where we will put them to grow out till they are ready to go in the coop this winter.lol

So here are the pics from the eggtopsy. From what we saw 2 were naked necks and one was black sizzle/frizzle. The black and one NN were upside down. The 3rd NN looked deformed in its eye sockets. Anyways here are the pics........................

We almost got a octagon , but we fell for the new model just had to save up for one.

So next up will be 12+ Black copper Marans and 12+ Welsummer eggs we will pick up next Sunday about 2 hours south of us. We talked for 5 mins or less and figured out how to move all the birds around to make room for more. What we do need is to have roo grow out areas. But when time permits I have lots of ideas there. Just hope for a mild winter to get some pens built.lol

Well we set some Welsummers and Marans today. We will start turning tomorrow. We picked them up from a byc member about 2 hours south from us and airsack a firm. We're hoping for a great hatch out. So we had our fun taking pics of light colored silkie eggs. We will see in time how we do with some off the darkest eggs out there.
