Oh geez! That’s terrible! Our program is sponsored by Ohio Soy bean council and everyone is educated that chicks hatched together are bonded and need to go to the same farm. They are to be homes in the groups that they hatched with. And even the families that volunteer don’t just get them because they asked. I essentially am responsible since i hatched them so finding a good home rather than an easy home is my responsibility.

I can’t believe they send them home in singles with students!! Yikes!

My hatch is going great! One chick and like 5 pips here on day 21.

One of the other classes has some trouble though.

Is this a prolapsed vent?

Will is correct itself?

All the same chick just hoping one of the pics shows you everything you need to see!

You'll have to take a very close look to see whether that protuberance is from the vent or the abdominal umbilicus.
If from the abdomen, it might retract and close up.
If from the vent, not likely.

That one was one of the first to hatch and her incubator this morning at 8 o’clock. So now it’s 4:30 PM and it still looks like that and it hasn’t changed or dried up anymore than it was at the beginning of the day.

She still has it in the incubator to give it the best chance at drying up if it’s going to. So real close examination has not really been an option for me. She also has some other pets going on and doesn’t want to pull the lid off until she knows that it safe to remove it from the incubator.

Sometimes, depends on the cause.

So it looks like it might be the umbilical chord. It’s seems to be moving around and doing what the others are doing. I did have one get struck and died in the process and 2 from the other rooms came out in terrible shape and needed to be culled. I have 6 healthy happy chicks of the 9 so far so feeling pretty good!

How long do i wait on those last 2 eggs. Today is day 22?

Keep all the others in or move them to the brooder?
