First snow today; Chickens going crazy.

My guess is she is really good at hiding them or she is too old to lay. She does the submissive squat for me though.

My 3 hens went a bit nuts yesterday with the first snow. I was not ready for it. I ran out and got them all settled in and made sure they were well protected from wind and snow in their tiny enclosed "run". I gave them a few treats on the floor of the run to dig around for to keep them busy once they got over the shock of the snow. They were fine by bed time. today they are out and acting like they own the entire area that is thiers. It sounds like you have it all under control in camparison.

I kid you not, I found her laying an egg in the coop just a bit ago. Look at this yolk. It's huge! I think.the snow forced her to lay in there.

she is pretty well maybe you will find her laying and get an egg from her

Are chickens smart enough to go back in the coop/run if it's cold/snowy/windy? This is their first winter. I tried to corral them back into the coop but they all ran away. They are huddled under the porch, which provides a bit of protection. I can continue chasing them if needed?

Unless it's a major downpour, our girls just ignore the rain. They do get a bit skittish with wind because of the stuff blowing around (eek, a leaf!). No experience with chickens and snow for me here in Florida, lol.

Oh, forgot to add re: cold...yesterday was pretty chilly for here. We never reached 60 and it dropped to about 48 by the time the day was over. The girls don't really seem to mind the cold. I know they don't mind it as much as I do, lol.
