First snow today; Chickens going crazy.

I have been trying not to clean the coop as much since it started getting cold. I know that leaving a bit in there will help keep there feet warm but I hate leaving poop inside the coop; it's small and I worry about them breathing the air in there. It has proper air flow without being drafty but some days it just stinks in there and I have to clean it! I composted a bit underneath the coop though (It's lifted about a foot off the ground and wrapped in a thick plastic) The floor feels pretty warm to me.

we received our first heavy snow today, with 5+ inches .... plowing most of the daylight hours and just getting home to feed an check for eggs the rooster(leghorn 8 months old) went nuts as I walked into the coop? my packs were full of snow and the danged thing attacked my feet with spurs engaged! ! what the heck got into you? thinking that perhaps mr. tutt, mistook the snow covered boots for another white rooster or two?? still has me confuzzled ? what the heck! temp outside was 20 degs through the day which yielded 13 large eggs(18 hens) with all the confusing changes in their wondrous day today... what will tomorrow bring with letting them out in the cold white world.

We got 16 inches over night and its still coming down. The chickens haven't even thought about leaving the coop today.

And that is one reason I moved to Florida.

Take care with driving and shoveling!

I used to live in KS. It was more the freezing rain rather than the snow that got to me (mainly because we had more of the rain than the snow). Freezing rain...can't shovel it, can't walk in it, can't drive in it. It was just such a mess.
