In the Brooder
Hi all,
So my hens have just started laying. One EE and my GLW have been laying consistently ( know it's them as I've seen them on the nests.
However, my other EE and my Welsummer are not. This past Friday, I believe they both laid their first eggs, found two soft shelled eggs beneath the roost. I think it was these two as we did get a blue and brown egg from the others that day.
I know soft shelled eggs are not uncommon for new layers. However, I have not seen any additional eggs being laid, soft shelled or otherwise since then. About 3-4 days now. I've made sure there is plenty of oyster shells out for them and have been keeping an eye out for odd behavior in case they are having trouble or are egg bound, but haven't seen any issues.
My question is, is it normal for hens to take several days between laying in the beginning? Especially if they have soft shelled eggs? The other two have been very consistent and only miss a day here and there as I know it takes usually 24-26 hours for an egg to form.
Just kinda worried for them, I don't want to assume all is fine and then find two hens have died because I didn't know any better.
Thanks in advance!
