First time Broody will hatch her babies this Sunday!

Congrats! My broody's chicks began hatching yesterday and are continuing this morning, Day 20.

Hatch day always feels like Christmas to me. All that anticipation leading up to it and then the surprise of what "presents" show up.

Here are the first chick pics that I have!

They are all so cute. Just 5 so far. Not sure how long to wait for the 6th egg? Just wait for Gertie? She will know? When I candled the eggs for the last time on day 17, there was one white egg that I questioned seeing any movement in. But the other 5 I was certain were live ones. Maybe that is the same egg? You are all so right! If feels like Christmas today. I have had neighbors stopping by to see the new babies all day! They usually get a peek at the little fluffy faces poking out and saying "PEEP"!


While Gertie is working hard at being Mama, my others are enjoying the relaxation of a dust bath!

About that last egg, hold it up to your ear and tap it with your fingernail. Do you hear it peeping?

That's what I always do with the last eggs to hatch. I don't toss them if I don't hear the peeping, though. I just wait a little longer.

One way or the other, Gertie will probably be ready to leave the nest with her babies tomorrow.

Here is one of Gertie's chicks saying hello to you all! I believe it to be a cross with my one of my Pearl white leghorn hens and Leopold, my barred rock roo...... I guess I will have to wait to find out!

I`m excited for you to!I have a silkie that is on two eggs that are not hers but are silkie eggs,this is my first time two I can`t hardly wait,Sat.will be day 21.She is in with another silkie hen and a cochin rooster,I have a place for her when the eggs hatch.She is in a plant pot truned on its side and she sits with her head in the back of the planter,one day she pushed her eggs outside the planter and sat there for the day then put them back and is still facing the back of the planter,I would show pictures but I have never frigured out how on here,believe me I have TRIED!!.
