wow mtnfam!!
what a fantastic story of broody hen hatching, i too am new to this and had 7 eggs junder my speckeldy (we gave them to her from an auction as she had been broody for a while! so she is our best friend now she has something to sit on!) yesterday we went to chek on her and her eggs and found a broken egg in there under her but no inners of the egg, its day 21 next week and am also really excited! love your photos of the lil chicks under the mummy hen!
my hen is in a section of the nesting box which she shares with 6 other hens, im thinking she will be ok with her chicks when they hatch in there as she will protect them? and ive got no ideas of moving the chicks from the mum as i hope it will come naturally to her but she is a first timer, when would you say that i should be mmoving her manually to go and stretch her legs and food and water intake etc?
so glad I found this topic as its really helped me to understand a bit more about newbie hens

My Bantam Cochin hen is on about 18 bantam eggs i should count them again i just gave her eggs till she could not cover anymore.I had one left thats in the bator that ill slip under her when they start hatching...she is due sunday...this is my third broody so far and i think i have another one trying to go broody for the second time.....

I`m so disapointed! Te eggs under by silkie were not fertile, let her sit untill Monday night then dh got the eggs and opened them and nothing,so he took her bucket, and she is back to her old self today, her little buddy is glad she has been without her for 27 days, she kept getting the bucket with her and would stay for awhile then go back outside with the rooster, the rooster is happy to have his two girls with him again.
