Hello!

I officially joined today so I can help help with my sick girl.

I just started raising chickens this year. I got my little flock almost a year ago May. This website has been very informative, especially being a first time chicken mom. My little flock consists of 2 Rhode Island Reds ( Reba and Lucy) , 2 Black Laced Silver Wyandotte’s (Wynnie and Dottie), and my lone Easter Egger, Melba. One thing I’ve learned is to always get two of each. My poor EE was odd girl out, though Reba and her became fast friends, she still is bottom of the pecking order.

I’ve also learned that having chickens is a quick way to heart break. I never saw myself as the crazy chicken lady, but here I am. I love spending time with my girls and learning all their personalities. It’s rough though when you see how cruel they can be, when they get sick (my first time through and I’ve stressed and cried), and when you have to make hard decisions (putting on pinless peepers, isolating them when you know they are scared to be away from their buddies). Ugh. Yet, here I am planning on getting more. Maybe not naming them this time. I only want layers.

Anyhow- I love reading the threads and learning from everyone’s experience.

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow

Chickens definitely bring both joy and heartbreak. :hugs But after it's all said and done, you wouldn't pass up the chance if you could to keep them. It's like no other experience.

So sorry you have a sick girl. I see you found our Emergency forums. I hope she will be ok.

Hop up on the roost bar, we saved you a spot!

Thank you!!!! As hard as this part is, I know there is no turning back! Glad I found my flock 😉

Welcome. How is Melba doing now?
She’s still lethargic and puffed up. I posted to the emergency thread for some guidance. I’m going to take some pictures tomorrow to better illustrate what’s going on. I’m on here now going through past posts trying to find similarities and see what I can apply. Today was day 1 of her doing this and so far she doesn’t seem egg bound. She had 2 days of Tylosin and then this started. I’m wondering if it could be sour crop but she’s so skittish I can barely even touch her. 😕
