First Time Chick Parents, Spring 2016

Hi,

I just got my first 8 chicks and 4 ducks. Having problems with one chick. It is sluggish and well something is not right. Any ideas? I may also post with not newbies lol.

3 teaspoons of sugar to each quart of water will help perk it up and the others. I always give it to my new hatches for the first 3 to 4 days. It does wonders!!!

Thanks, that's my granddaughter she is 4. She is loving these new additions. She is eager to momma them. She participates in their daily care.

Thought I'd post some pictures of two of my chicks at 3 weeks old

This first is Floki, my turken.

And Ragnar, my Orpington

Both hens, though they are named after men.

Wow! Can't wait for mine. I have my very first batch on my homemade in cubator from the famous "coolerbator" here on BYC. They hatch April 1st.

We became brand new chick parents as of yesterday, with 5 2-day old chicks purchased from a local farm supply store. We have been talking about doing this and planning for months and are very excited! These are their 3-day old pictures! All the breeds listed are what the farm store told us.

This is Ginger, a Rhode Island Red.

This is Chipmunk, an Ameraucana.

This is Daisy, a Buff Orpington.

This is Trixie, a Silver Laced Wyandotte.

This is Raven, a Barred Rock.

We had a scare with Daisy last night, she was a little listless, but we tried the sugar water and she is just as perky as the rest of them today. I've been constantly checking them for pasty butt as well. And I don't think I'll ever get used to the way they sleep, I hold my breath every time I see them napping to make sure I see them breathing! Good luck to everyone on their new adventures!

I love this!

After dreaming about having chickens for the last few years, I finally did it! I ordered chicks! I am waiting for the "official" shipping date from Cackle, but I am anticipating the end of May.
I ordered:

3 Buff Orpingtons
3 Easter Eggers
3 Speckled Sussex
3 French black copper marans
3 Silver laced Wyandotttes

I would like to get a few Iowa Blues too. There is a local guy who raises them though, so once I know my ship date I will try to coordinate with him,

They're not here yet, but I am already so EXCITED!
