Welcome to BYC, rikkitikki58. You will learn so much from this forum. I know I have.

Your wife will come around. My husband says the chickens are my project, which started with an 11yr old in
4-H. However, he came up with an idea on how to make a run, and even mentioned meat pens next year. But he says he isn't into chickens, ha ha.

Anyway, welcome and have fun.

Welcome fellow nubie. I too am new to the game of chicken. I purchased my pullets from Rural King last May and have been having a ball since. I just moved a Silkie roo that was the cock of the hen house out and placed my RIR cockeral in so maybe I can start getting some fertile eggs. I just built myself an incubator and a candler. My wife thinks I a little strange too when it comes to my enthusiasm but then she admits it's one of the traits that endears me to her... along with the fact that I'm a good back scratcher.

Rikkitikki58, at some point I will need to be getting rid of some of my chickens (mostly roos I think).

I have two 3 month old Black Australorps and I am pretty sure they are both roos but I am hoping 1 turns out to be a hen. I have two 3 month old Rhode Island Reds that look like roos also (definatly 1 is a roo) and two other RIR hens.

All of my chickens are 3 months old but I just ordered 19 chicks from Ideal (6 died and I have replacements and more I ordered comming soon). At some point I may have to get rid of some of those also. In the next 2 months I am going to have to build 3 more coops or tractors so I can keep my breeds seperated so I can keep the breeds pure when these 3 month olds reach maturity.

If you ever need any just keep an eye out or contact me because I will be posting them on here if/when I decide to get rid of some.
