Hey there Im Sammi a first BYC keeper!!!

I found this website today after searching the web for advice about one of my warren hens. I have three, and a Leghorn Cockeral. Two of my girls lay almost everyday, 13 eggs last week, go on ladies (Floyd and Henrietta)! Seeing them lay their first egg I was like a proud mommy :p

One of my girls, Mary, the biggest and bossiest however is struggling somewhat.

What else can I say.. Our chickens float around the garden with us, sitting on the rake grabbing worms, and free range with our shepherd/terrier cross doggy who is almost 5years old called Lex. Hes a good boy totters about with the chooks and seems to lay on the step watching over them when they are free and Im indoors.

We've had our little flock for about a month now, after seeing them and building a coop at home. Cost me under £80 to get started, that has got to be a record! My coop is large with an outside run as well so they have plenty of space to exercise if we are out all day.

Its an amazing hobby along with growing my own veg. Ive been really surprised to realise how different their personalities are. We have spent hours just quietly watching them. With a bit of luck we will get Mary laying soon without any complications, with a bit of luck I may be worrying that she is egg bound for nothing!

:) x

Hello to you all from Birmingham, England and thanks for such a warm welcome! Its been soo much fun so far, but sadly one of hens seems to be struggling, Im keeping a close eye on her, shes yet to lay (Mary) unlike the other girls and seems to be spending a lot of time trying and not getting anywhere! :( poor thing!

They very much enjoy trashing my vegetable patch too :p .. (now protected with fencing!)
