First time chicken owner !!!!

I have questions regarding what looks likes a sore or build up above the vent where the tail feathers come out, I just got 5, 2 white sussex, 3 rode reds, the sore is on the youngest of the bunch. I have checked for mites or lice they seem clean also one has a poopy vent and diarrhea, not having the greatest experience so far I want them healthy and happy. One just sleeps all day I think they have needs for more than just food etc. not sure how or what to bathe with....help me please I think they were neglected (((

If you can try to post a picture. If they are lethargic maybe put some electrolyte in their water ( it's like Gatorade)

she is the small one in the pic, also one has the lower part of its beak longer than the top. There are things that are telling me I got handed a poor bunch, possibly ripped off some already lay, I have no idea the ages and paid $80 for all 5. As a beginner im frustrated but no way will they gor back where they came from!

ya do what she said put electrolytes on the water and keep them on the same feed and only that and
maybe the poop should clear up hopefully.

$80 for 5 chickens is outrageous! If you can, isolate any sick chickens. Hopefully she will clear up.

Hello there and welcome to BYC!

Hard to see in this pic, but the preen gland, which is a small pimple like bump, is back there and sometimes they can become impacted and need attention. Warm water compresses usually help them to start flowing again. But definitely post this in our emergency section for more help.

I hope she is ok.
