My Coop
My Coop
We were not planning on getting chickens until next spring. I joined this forum to gather information and learn to be prepared for then.
We are currently building our new home so all our time, money and effort is going to that. Then comes covid. We got a bit ahead of schedule on the house and have so many scraps laying around. My 40th birthday is this June and plans got cancelled (I’ve been waitn10 years! To go whale watching at Brier island and it’s gets cancelled because of a global pandemic) so I told my husband I just wanted chickens.
Without so much as a blink he just said how many and how big a coop. I said just 2 chickens. By the time he got home he said, if you’re getting 2 you may as well get 3 or 4. I went to pick up our 4 and the lady gave us 5, we also have 4 more coming at the end of June.
So we have started our coop. It is 5”4 x 3”8. We base the size on how much metal roofing we had left over from the house. We had lots of 2x4, strapping and OSB. We only had the buy the Smart Siding for the outside walls and some hardware cloth.
We had left over paint from painting our current bathroom.
I can not wait to move our chickes into the coop. I will continue to post pics as it get completed. I just couldn’t wait to share. Painting it tomorrow.
