Do you think it's okay to raise ducklings indoors for a few weeks?

G'Day from down under Sage :frowWelcome!

I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week discussions which I have found to be a great resource, informative and sometimes entertaining; so definitely worth checking out. There are some down the bottom of the page which are duck specific.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your ducks, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Including your general location on your profile will assist others. Location, climate, season etc can be important factors when members are responding to any questions you may have and vice versa.

Ah yeah, they sure do like to chew on those pine shavings (makes me super nervous), I think this will be my last time brooding on shavings for ducks, next time they get the bathtub with some shelf liner on the bottom, much easier to clean too I hear :p.

Anyways good luck with your babies enjoy them while they are small, they get big super fast!:) (Brooding ducklings in the house is the best since you can sneek to where they are every free moment you get :p.)

The fact that they chew on their shavings makes me pretty nervous too. But now that they are a week older they seem like they are spitting the shavings out more consciously.

Is the shelf liner grippy enough for their little feet? I consider doing the same thing in lieu of pine shavings, but I was concerned they may develop splaying of their legs.

I haven't looked into it hard core yet, but I think it would be fine, I know some people use towels for them, and as long as you get a nice rough feeling liner I think it would be enough. I'm about to go shopping for most of the day I'll try to post a link to the kind of stuff I'm talking about later today.

This is the kind of shelf liners I was thinking of, they have alittle squish to them and as far as I can tell not slippery. I only held off this time because I wanted to look into it more and see if it was likely to catch their little toes. I don't think it would but I'm not positive.
