If there is still blood, you just have to wait. It will not survive if you pull it out without the blood being absorbed. You've done a great job so far. But you can't make it absorb the blood. It has to do that part for itself

ok thanks, do you have any theories on why the blood is taking so long to absorb? Or a story where one of yours did this? Even if they turn out bad i would like to hear

Yes, you can see him beak and he will chirp and try to kick, like he wants to get out but cant

Have you used any ointment like bactracin? (Neosporin but NOT the kind with pain killer in it!) you can moisten the exposed membrane with that stuff, it will not dry out as fast as just wetting with water

The only one i was prepared to help was a duck that pipped below the air cell. His beak was out the hole and I was afraid he wouldn't make it. I went to work that morning, came home at noon figuring I was going to have to do something, but it had made it out on its own. He's fine today.

Also the first egg I ever opened with a chick in it, I thought it was already dead. I chipped the air cell end off to do eggtopsy. I felt the membrane, didn't feel any movement, so I cut into the membrane. Then it started moving and chirping. I had caught a small blood vessel, so it bled. I put it back in the incubator, but it died a few hours later. That's how I found BYC.

Also, I know chicks are much different from ducks, but I had 2 ducks to take over 40 hours to hatch. That's not unusual for ducks though. But I know it feels like eternity.
