Well I've been a horticulturalist for 30 years and decided to try growing chickens...I have 16 RIR and 6 Jersey Giants all layers...the Jerseys are super sweet but I've been reading reading people saying in takes 20 weeks plus to get the first egg...so being 19 weeks I wasn't planning on switching from the grower to layer til next week or so....BUT to my surprise I went in to the coop today for the daily tasks and low and behold a perfectly shaped, although be it small, a little brown egg! Upon further inspection that little sucker is pretty hard!!! They have a taste for Tarragon of all things I've tried giving them fresh...who knows maybe that was the kick starter...I also have the light on a timer for optimal daylight...love all the advice here...so fun looking forward to contributing more...

Cluckity Cluck!!!
