First time hatcher needs help please...

Hi, We have a very determined broody little hen who we gave a fertile egg too. It was due to hatch on Sunday the 21st so it is 2 days overdue. We have never hatched an egg before although I have been reading as much as I can about it. It seems that it is not at all unusual for the gg not to make it to the chicken stage! Still Im a bit bummed that it hasnt happened yet and Im wondering is it too late now? Should I remove the egg? Will the hen be upset about us removing the egg? Should I crack the egg? I can see something that looks dark inside the egg but I can not hear anything.

Also can anyone tell me if its ok to pick up the egg to have a look at it during the 21 days? We have done that, not alot but a few times and only for a couple of seconds, but maybe that is what has caused the problem.

I don't throw out my eggs until they are a week overdue, unless they are starting to ooze! Then I carefully throw them in the woods, quick!
