I currently have 4 thermometers in the incubator, yes i am nervious!! Sometimes I tend to go a little overboard.

I am very jealous of your Genesis! I really wanted one, but no one sells them around here. I love barred rocks! I think on the next batch of chicks I am going to hatch some of those from the neighbors flock.

Have you had buff orpingtons before? I LOVE mine, so friendly. Great layers to!

im setting eggs tomorrow! black cochins and a cochin/rir mix that should be interesting! first time, i got my temp good and steady, but my humidity too high, going to work on that tonight and tomorrow. im nervous too!!

Ok, I see Im not alone here...I have 6 silkie eggs left and 2 maybes but probably nots...out of 21.

I am now worried that I will do something wrong and they wont hatch, I would feel so bad, I can see them jumping around in their shells already, kind of like this

I think I am hooked on this stuff, just wish I didnt have to depend on shipped eggs. Good luck to everyone, oooh Black Cochins, sounds pretty!

I just set my eggs in the incubator this evening. I have 42 eggs in (french black copper marans, ameraucanas, buff orpingtons and blue orpingtons)and hoping for at least a couple to hatch

I'll be following along and seeing how well everyone else is doing! Goodluck!

I got my Genesis1588 via UPS and set one duck egg in it 2/6
Then 4 on 2/13.
Ducks take 28 days, so I haev a long wait to go. Got a turner too, and a temp & humidity gizmo at walmart.

Today I might just have fried all my eggs.
Operator error.

I thought I had to set the bator to 86% humidity so they have been steaming in the sauna for 2 weeks.
Then last night, I read that it was actually 86*F on the wet buld and not 87% humidity.
What in the world is a wet bulb? The only wet bulb I have is growing leaves on my kitchen counter.
So I did me some research...google google.
DUH, 86*F on the wet bulb is actually 55% humidity!!
FREAK OUT!

I poured out some water then the incubator dipped in temp then my eggs got too cold, then I put in a big tub of hot water to heat it up...
Too much steam...and I cooked the eggs.
106*F sizzle sizzle
I candled my duckies and I saw no more movement.
So I thought, maybe I'll dig some holes in thebackyard tomorrow if they still don't move.

But then....I can't wait that long!
I have ADD

So I reached in & candled again & they moved!

Lets see if they make it through the night!
Lets also see if I develop high blood pressure by the end of all this.

AllCoop'dUp :

dsqard @ Crazy "L" Farms - thank you for the encouragement. I was in such a hurry to look at them and then I couldn't figure out what the heck I was looking at! I ended up marking them all with a big "?" My hands were shaking so badly I didn't want to hold them any longer than I had to! I think I will take them all out and look again sometime this weekend. I'm also going to put 7 in the mini incubator I got, as a back up. Have any of you every had a situation where you moved the viable ones to a different incubator and started a new batch up?

I only have one incubator so I haven't ever moved mine. I have read about a lot of people who move their eggs to a second incubator for hatching. I would think that as long as your second incubator is up and running at the right temp and humidity the eggs will be fine. I know how you feel when candling. I am always so worried that I will drop one. Don't fret too much about having the bator open to candle. I read on some other threads that it could be beneficial to actually let the eggs "cool" for up to 20 minutes a day like eggs under a broody do since she will get up and eat and drink water. I have never tried this and if you bator doesn't recover temps and humidity easily, I wouldn't do this but it does make me worry less about having the cover off to candle. I also understand how you feel when you candle and are not seeing what the pictures show. I had no idea if any of mine were alive on my first hatch. The eggs just kept getting darker and darker as the chicks developed so I just assumed that they were growing ok. Mine even wound up hatching a few days late so on hatch day I was so sure that I had done something wrong and I wasn't going to get any chicks. When I finally got my first pip I was so happy and relieved. Just remember to breathe!

This is my first time hatching and I just set 12 BCM and 12 RIR in my bator. I am so excited and nervous at the same time. I really hope that at least some the eggs that I set hatch. They are all shipped eggs. It is really going to be hard to keep my hands off of them until day 10. I just bought a candler. It is a Brinsea Standard Ova View Egg Candler. I got it on ebay but it was kinda pricey. I was hoping that it would help in seeing in the BCM eggs. They are so dark that I am not sure I will see anything.

Thanks for calulating the hatch date for me.

Thank
Shaun

PS I bought my Hovabator 1602 on ebay and it came with a fan kit and egg turner for pretty cheap. All new in box. All together it was about $15 dollars cheaper than what TSC wanted for the little giant and the egg turner and fan kit.....

so far so good, 6 eggs growing nicely, in the meantime, the above posters are doing a good job of keeping me entertained! two more weeks, you cant be serious, I feel like ive been doing this forever. Note to self: dont set eggs you cant see into, such as BCMs, you will go nuts. Happy nail biting everyone!

I know that my BCMs are going to drive me nuts too! I've set 16 of them last night. I'm going to candle my ameraucana and orpington eggs and just hope that my BCMs are doing the same or better
