First Time Hatching Anyone With Me??

thank you

Thanks for the info, it does make me feel more hopeful. I'm back to playing with the temp again since the outside temps have gotten much hotter - in the 80's today. My windows are open but not in the room with the incubator. I'm afraid it will make it too cold over night if I open the window. I found if I take out the vent cap, it cools down to 99.7F. My humidity is now staying at 58%.
Your chicks are cute! I'm hoping all of mine hatch. This is a test hatch of our own eggs to use for meat birds. Then we will breed our BO rooster to our largest BO pullet to start breeding a better flock - to SOP standards.

BTW, I've read every post on this thread and I've gleaned a lot of info that is very helpful. Thanks for being there first and posting the good and the bad of your experiences!

I candled my eggs this evening using an incubright flashlight I bought with my incubator. The eggs are on day 7. It looks like I have 3 that aren't fertile out of 12. One of them is dark but I couldn't see any veins, the rest have veins. Most of my eggs are pretty light colored so I am assuming the one that is dark is further developed than the rest?? I left the 3 questionable ones in the incubator until I candle again next Monday night at day 14. The way my heat and humidity are fluctuating, I'm surprised any of them are developing!

Well, I have heard others say to go into a hot steamy bathroom and use a safety pin or something to pierce the egg a bit on the larger end. If you see blood, stop! The baby may not have absorbed the blood etc yet. You could try making a little progress for it invade it's shrink wrapped and then put it back in the warm humid bator. Warm wet papertowels might help too. Good luck!!

That's tough... I just had to help 3 duck eggs hatch and I did the steamy bathroom trick. They had been squeeking at me since Sunday. I ended up pipping them enough to break the membrane so they could breath and put them back in. Left it alone until Monday morning and saw no progress so then opened them up more. Could easily see the babies and all were breathing/squeeking so again, left them to try and get out. I watched them ALL day Monday and saw them kind of struggling. I figured that IF they hadn't gotten out by Tuesday morning, I would get them out. BEST decision I made. They were all STUCK on the membrane! The humidity was probably too low the week before hatching (I was on vacation and someone else had the bator) and they started hatching three days early. Not enough time to get the humidity safely up. It was at 88% starting Saturday night but since they came early.. well... you know.

ANYWAY.. I am happy to report that after a touchy first day hatched they are all doing well. One had a neck strain or something. While the other two were getting up and around he just laid there kind of floppy
