I am new and a first time hatcher with help from my broody hen! My three girls (no cocks) include Two Welsummers and a Plymouth Rock. I have a broody Welsummer so I slipped under half a dozen fertilised Gold Maran eggs under her last week. I'm now anxiously waiting results!

Has your broody accepted the eggs? Sending good hatching vibes your way

Yes she has accepted, thanks. There's still plenty for me to be nervous about though. She's been sitting for 7 days now but has been on and off her nest a bit more recently. This morning I replaced her old nest box with a new broody box (flat on the ground) and noticed that her eggs had gone cold. I'm trying not to interfere too much, just want to have the best set-up for hatching! Fortunately there's lots of reassuring advice on BYC so think I'm in good hands. Must stop worrying and let nature takes it's course!

Welcome to BYC!

Yes, you can't rush a broody. She may not be completely broody enough to set full term. She may turn on completely in a day or two. You could always incubate them yourself. But it is fun to watch nature in action.

Good luck with your broody and her eggs and welcome to our flock!
