This is my first time trying to hatch chicks in a incubator. I bought some eggs and they arrived in 2 days bubble wrapped and double boxed. I let them sit in egg carton 24 hours and already had my incubator running for 10 days. It is now day 2. I have an autoturner. The question I have is the dark spot when you candle is that the yoke. If so mine is at the large end and moves when turned over.

Are you able to take a picture to point out what you're looking at? You won't be able to see much on day 2. I'm usually able to see development by day 3 but it depends on the color of the shell.

At this early stage you should be able to shine the light from top, bottom, or side and the egg will light up on day 2 so whatever angle is easier for you to photograph what you're asking about.

Yes, the orange/yellow blob towards the top is just a yolk. You should be able to start seeing development in a few days. This is a white egg, which is extremely easy to see through for candling so don't expect to be able to see all of this right away. Day 7 is a good starting point for someone that is new to candling, but this is what you're looking for. Good luck on your hatch!

Well this hatch was a complete disappointment. Out of 12 eggs I have two chicks. 5 eggs did not develop. One died at lockdown. One died after pipping. The others I opened on day 25. Looks like they died one day into lockdown.
