My 3 chicks are almost 3 weeks old now. Starting to get their first feathers. Any ideas on what I've got here? All three have a barred plymouth rock rooster daddy and either an amerucana mama, golden sex link mama or buckeye mama. Each chick has a different mama. I know these are not great photos... not very close up pics - but each one has a yellow spot on the top of their heads and are starting to get barred looking feathers. Thanks!

The barred rooster is going to throw all barred offspring. A chick with a straight comb comes from the rsl momma. Buckeyes and Ameraucanas both have pea combs, so the best bet is to look for muffs, from the Ameraucana parent.

Black trumps most other colors, so I think your chicks are going to be mostly black, probably with some reddish or silver leakage, depending on the momma's coloring.

You won't know gender for another few weeks. You can't sex by color (light for males, dark for females) like with pure bred barred birds.

Thanks for the info, here are a couple pics from today.

I'm making a guess here.. but based on the last picture, I think the one on the left is from the sex link (single comb), the one in the back is from the ameraucana (blurry but looks like it has more puffy cheeks/ beard), and the one in front on the right is from the buckeye (looks like it might have that odd "modified pea comb" that you get when you cross a single comb with a pea comb).

Updated photos - what do you think? I think I might have 2 roosters :) All three have a barred plymouth rock rooster daddy and either an amerucana mama, golden sex link mama or buckeye mama. Each chick has a different mama.
