first time hatching

ok....I couldnt figure out how to post pics from my phone...so I had to get to the puter. Here they are 17 Marans eggs. 5 are supposed to be blue copper and the other 12 were listed as blue, black or splash. All arrived appearing good. Now we will see if we can make something with them.

Let them sit at room temp up to 24 hrs. to let the ingredients settle from shipping.
Some people say not to turn shipped eggs in the incubator the first 3 days. I don't do that if I let them stand at least 24 hours.

Good luck.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

Very pretty eggs.

I let mine set 3 days. I had them in an egg carton with one end propped up. I would rotate 2-3 times a day. I had 9 of 11 hatch. Other eggs that I didn't do this with I had none hatch. Good luck.

from what I have read about shipped eggs, I was planning on letting them sit in the carton for 24 hrs....then into the incubator but auto turner turned off for 3 - 5 days....then full speed ahead.

so I tried to candle the eggs last night to check on the air cells. Most look good, some I cant see much anything through them. I have one that the air cell is on the small end of the egg. Do I keep that one small side up??..or down? A couple of them appear loose, but only move a very little bit, and they are still at the fat end of the egg. It does not move down the side of the egg if you tip it,....so I guess that is good.

Good luck on the hatch! Those are some beautiful dark eggs, not sure I would even try candling. If you have an accurate grams scale (I have one for cooking) you could weigh the eggs prior to setting and then reweight later to make sure they are losing the right amount of moisture (13% through the hatch) if you can't adequately see the air cells.

I have wondered what to do about air cells in the small end myself. I don't know the answer but I would be inclined to place the egg on its side and hand turn it. Perhaps someone with more experience will help on that one.

My eggs are white and green and they are on their 4th day. I candled some of them. Some are clear, some I do see development (dot with some veins). Do I throw out the clear ones? Thanks.

I'm no expert....but I think I have read a couple times that it wont hurt to wait until day 10...then clear out the clear ones.
