first time incubating

Looks like you are doing fine. I assume he is still actively chirping and wiggling? You may have to run the qtip around between his body and the membrane. Like scooping peanut butter out of a jar. Work on him for a few minutes at a time, then let him rest for a while. Once he starts trying to push out on his own, he may have alot of stuck membrane areas, so you will probably have some to pull it off of him. Try to let him initiate the final push out when he's ready, then help if he needs it.

It was definitely bright red. A big drop came out and I dabbed it with a tissue and then put another dry piece of tissue on it. Its not soaking in the second tissue so I'm assuming its stopped. He's kicking his leg like crazy and thrashing about but I think the membrane is stuck to the top of his head. I'm having a hard time pushing it back

I tried sliding a wet qtip under the membrane but I thought I saw yellowish goo that could be the yolk ruptured. I don't really know for sure though and I'm scared to open it up anymore to see. If it is ruptured will he die?

I would not be surprised if the membrane was tightly stuck to him. If you can get the shell off the stuck areas then swab the outer membrane repeatedly. It will help loosen it from the inner membrane and possibly from the baby as well.

You may need to leave a patch of membrane on his head just to help him out. If you dampen the outer membrane, it should become transparent enough to see.

With as much of his leg as you can see, you should be able to see the belly. The yolk would be between the legs. A broken yolk is not always fatal, but at this stage I would be very surprised if the yolk was not fully absorbed. The yellowish goo is possibly just albumen, yolk is rubbery when dry but albumen is sticky and hard.

I can't tell where his other leg is but it seems like his butt would be where the gooey stuff is.I dont think he's in the same position as that picture. Looks like he's folded in half with a leg on each side of his head because I don't see the other leg anywhere.
