I can't tell where his other leg is but it seems like his butt would be where the gooey stuff is.I dont think he's in the same position as that picture. Looks like he's folded in half with a leg on each side of his head because I don't see the other leg anywhere.
He has to be exhausted by now. See if you can stimulate him by whistling, chirping, or playing a video. If he wiggles and pushes he should be able to free himself.
Sounds good. He probably can use a little rest. Just don't let him give up. I know its a fine line there, so you have to judge that for yourself. Did you get the membrane off his head? I think that would really allow him to kick and stretch out and open up his body. Then you would be able to work on the stuck areas.He's really kicking and wiggling but looks like the membrane is stuck in some places cause he can't get out even with it being that open. I'm just giving him a break to warm up and then I'll have to start moistening again.
