First time killing.....

Thank you everyone. :hugs I'm feeling better now.

@Skippersnh, I don't kill for fun. The chipmunks/squirrels were spreading ticks to my neighbors dogs and outside cats, and us people, too. It's not the chickens I'm worried about. (Although I don't want a squirrel attacking them for some reason...probably unlikely.) I took care of the feed problem today. So hopefully I won't have to take anymore lives. Also, I don't Injure or torcher the animal, I kill it quickly so it does not feel pain.

No danger of that here! :p Meat tastes too good... :drool But I do my best to ensure it's sustainably sourced.

Agree on that - nothing like red meat, Unfortunately, after cancer (now in remission) - I can no longer eat anything high in iron. So I'm restricted to poultry and fish. I cheat every few months. More tan anything, I miss a great juicy burger!

The squirrels/chipmunks were not "spreading" ticks to anything... Ticks aren't like fleas. Animals who go outside are at risk of picking up ticks... outdoor cats are prime examples. If yall humans were getting ticks too, then you need to look at your yard/foliage and reduce the areas prime for ticks. My dogs have caught hare with ears full of ticks, but none of the squirrels I have ever hunted (for food) had ticks.

You said you shot at it several times before you definitely wounded it, and then shot it a few more times to be sure. That is the exact opposite of quick and humane. If you are going to continue attempting to justify kills that way, your guilt is 100% warranted because you are not respecting the lives you are taking.

If you don't want to eat the squirrel, make it a meal for an animal - chickens, dogs, pigs, cats, etc. You can make the tail into a keychain, you can clean the skull and sell it... That squirrel doesn't need to go to waste.

If you're using a BB gun to kill squirrels or chipmunks, you're not doing it humanely or quickly and they will feel pain. Get a real gun. BTW, it's "torture" and not "torcher."

I completely agree.
