One of my red sex-link just laid her 3rd egg for us, in less than 24 hrs.

She is about 18wks old. They all are perfect eggs, just small. I know she is the only one, cuz I caught her laying each time and making that weird "laying" sound. I'm just worried that this is too many eggs for her body to handle? Is it normal? I know that the sex-links sometimes are known for getting egg-bound, etc cuz they lay so many eggs. Any info will be greatly appreciated

Are you sure someone else isn't laying them and she's hopping in the box right away and making noise? Sometimes mine will also just sit in the box and make a bunch of noise every time someone else crams in to lay an egg. I've found a hen sitting on a hen to lay an egg while the hen underneath makes all the noise. New hens don't always understand what's up and may just make a whole lot of racket pretty much constantly for a few days after their first egg.

I do have a few others that "look" like they should be ready to lay as well. She may very well be taking the credit for all of the eggs! I'll have to watch her tomorrow

Thanks for the info!

I have a buddy that says he has a RIR that will lay 2 eggs in a day some times. I have never heard of 3 in a day. Want to sell her.....

Sometimes eggs can get delayed or sped up to the point you might just barely get 2 in 24hrs. Likely one was laid right after you collected and the other right before. I wouldn't actually want to breed a hen that frequently produced multiple eggs in a day. Odds are something is going to go wrong with her reproductive/egg making system since it's not running normal. Quite frequently attempts by humans to improve something only results in making something weaker. There's a reason they normally only lay one a day.
