I am so excited that my broody bantam buff silkie momma has successfully started to hatch her clutch. It grew to 23 eggs before I moved her. She was stealing from her sisters. I know they won’t all hatch at the same time. I have offered food to the first two hatchlings and Wanda showed them exactly what to do. When I removed the plate, she got right back on those other eggs with the two littles under her.
I’m so stinking excited. I did have to remove five eggs after the 2nd candeling.
So if all goes well, we will have 18 bantam cuckoo, partridge chickies!

Do you have an incubator? She may leave the eggs within 36 hours of the first chicks hatching. Some hens will set longer, but most are biologically programmed to take their chicks and search for feed and water relatively soon after hatching.
I do have an incubator. I’m hoping she will sit longer as I’ve made the food and water easily available. Thanks for the heads up though. I’ll keep a close watch to see if she leaves the eggs. I have the incubator ready if need be! These are my first hen hatchlings as well. It’s so exciting.

And we all love pictures of baby chicks. Just sayin'.

Congratulations! They are so cute!
Here’s daddy (Elvis) and momma (Wanda) teaching the littles to eat!

Hey. I have one in the process of hatching now. I put my blink camera in the box beside mamma yesterday so I could see if she’d stay on the other eggs. Just as you predicted, she took those two outside the nest. I checked in a few times over about 30 mins and then ran home and put them in the incubator. Seems like there are 8 that still have movement.
I really appreciate the heads up on that. Mamma is just as happy as can be with her two littles. 😁

The black hatched about 3 hours ago.
