First time mum to 2 Newborn chiks

Are they walking on their hocks as in crawling? Can they stand at all?
Yes one has no issues at all the other has only walked back under the heatlamp after I took him out for a wee while thinkn it was dehydration or too much heat but earlier yesterday he had no trouble what so ever

What I do is hold each chick and quickly dip beaks in the water and stand the chick up in front of the water. Sort of skim the surface of the water with the birds beak and usually they naturally open their beaks and get water. And this way they know where the water is. Same with food. Lay out a paper towel with CRUSHED crumbles on it and tap with your finger until they understand were the food is. Crush the food if it isn't already, for several days, using a paper towel. Eventually they will learn where food and water is. Chicks rely on mom to show them what to do.

Also, a good way to tell if chicks are hot or cold...It they are piling on top of each other under the heat lamp, they are cold. If they are laying with wings stretched out along the sides of the brooder out of the heat, they are overheating and hot. Chicks should be relaxed moving in and out of the heat corner warming and cooling their bodies.
