First time-New chicks

I'm also new chick owner. Picked up 15 chicks from post office Thursday. My son and I are splitting but he hasn't pick his up yet, tomorrow.
I'm having trouble with the water situation. Bought a chick mason jar waterer, but it always has pine flakes and debris, so the water won't come out. So been putting shallow dish of water and it spills and same problem with shavings and poop. Put a hammers waterer up and they use it but doesn't seem like enough. Do you have suggestions. Also with the water problem it keeps bedding wet. Been changing everyday because I know they don't need a wet environment. Was wondering what the best
solution would be and do you need to change bedding every day if dry. I put potty pads down,. Then detomaceous earth. Then pine shavings and then coop refresh. Is there a better method
