I had a broody that managed to hatch 2 chicks, but one died and the other was hurt so I took care of it and put it in my brother's old brooder. It's about 5 weeks old now. She's an EE that I hatched for my best friend, and today was her first day outside, since she definitely doesn't fit in the brooder anymore. I had to wait until all the rain stopped, or else I would have moved her sooner. I put her in a bunny cage, then set it on the grass in the shade, with food, water, and a box of dirt for her to play with. She was really scared at first, but she got used to it. She keeps cheeping and looking around for a buddy because she can hear the other birds chirping around her. I think I'll take her over to the neighbors to introduce her to the flock soon, but I'm not sure when, and I'll keep her in the bunny cage for a while. Here's pictures!
Oh, and for the first 20 minutes I kept chasing my kitties away from her, then I went inside for a minute, and when I came back out I saw my kitty and chick watching eachother, perfectly fine. It was funny that they were both so interested in each other, but I'm glad they're sepparated by a cage.
By the way, she needs a name! (So do my lambs...haha-I call them 88 and 90)
