First Time using my RCom King Suro 20

I am getting ready to go into lockdown with my new Suro 20 incubator in a few of days..This it the first time I have used this new incubator and so far it has held the temp and humidity...For any of you who have used this incubator do you think I should hatch the eggs out in this incubator or move them to my Hovabator at lockdown? I have 8 Silkie eggs in there set in a plastic egg tray...IF I leave them in the Suro would you leave them in the plastic egg tray that takes up the whole incubator or move them to an egg carton? Decisions Decisions.....

Hi,

I'm a little bit over halfway through my first incubation of 17 duck eggs with my new Suro, so I don't have any actual experience with it for lockdown just yet.

I don't have another incubator I can use as a hatcher, so I have no choice, but whether you want to move them is up to you. To me, the Suro looks incredibly easy to clean, so I'm not too worried about hatching mess. It does seem small, and I am a little worried about how 17 ducklings will do in that little space, but that might not be a concern for you with only 8 silkies.

Right now, my eggs are being held in place with the racks that came with the Suro. They've been holding them securely for the incubation, but I am planning to transfer the eggs to an egg carton for lockdown. I'm attracted to the idea of containing the hatching mess, and also preventing the hatched ducklings from playing kickball with the unhatched eggs.

Thank you for taking the time to respond...I am locking down today...I have decided to move the eggs to an egg carton and see how it goes...I too am worried about the amount of space inside the incubator for the chicks to move around..I will keep an eye on it and see how they do...

I believe we need to open the air intake also to increase oxygen for hatching...Do you know if that needs to be done at lockdown or just when chicks start to pip?

I just ordered my Rcom Suro but am using a borrowed Brinsea Octagon right now. I had a very small hatch in it last week and it is pretty small inside for sure. I think the Rcom has more "head room".

I think I am going to use an egg carton too. I really like hatching in them.

I've had the air hole open halfway the entire incubation. I've had no trouble keeping the humdity where I want it, and I figure the more oxygen, the better.

I'm planning to open mine all the way at lockdown, not just when I get a pip.

I did a hatch in the King Suro. I took it off the turner and put some paper towels down inside, took the eggs out of the carton and watched them hatch! I had a bit of a staggered hatch. I let the first set (4) in there for two days, opened it and grabbed them out quickly. The temp and humidity went up in a few seconds. Did not affect the rest of the eggs. I had 16 total in there and the chicks did not have much room to move but them got around okay. I love that incubator. It works great and recovers quickly. Good luck!

Oh... I opened up the air thing all the way at lockdown. I liked it because I could talk to them through it and hear them. Not sure if that has to be done or not, but that's what I did.

When I went into lockdown with my Brinsea, and I moved the dividers out and put in cartons. It worked well.

This is the end of the first run in the suro 20 here, Mine are hatching late, so far 3 are out and are healthy. During incubation I had the vent open a crack, it was very stable. Now they are hatching and I have the vent open 100% because every time a chick hatches humidity skyrockets.

I'd leave them in the suro (plastic is probably a lot easier to clean than styro, plus its already set up and stable) and take out the egg tray so their little legs dont slip through the holes and injure them, an egg carton is a lot softer than plastic.
