She's (nothin' wrong with a little wishful thinking...) all active and trampling all around momma now- SO STINKIN CUTE!!!!
* I have a CUTE factory in my garage!!!" We are producing cute by the PEEPload!!! *
Guessing you might work M-F? Anyhow, how smart of you to
plan your hatch for a weekend so you could be home for it!
I work odd days
TWFS, but I'm always home sunday/monday and my DH is home Saturdays... anyhoo- I did plan for a weekend hatch- made me feel better to think I could "supervise" just in case. Although all I've done is bother Mommy! She looks SO tuckered out the poor thing. You can tell the little ones have been keeping her up pipping and cheeping all night last night
BTW- I officially have two babies
Pickle now has a friend- a light brahma (I THINK- Mom won't let me read the markings on the eggshells, how rude!) named Olive.
Hopefully before I turn in tonight I can sneak a peak at the remaining two eggs to see if we have any more action going on.
As a side note- noticed an "animal cage" kind of smell and poked around enough to realize that Gesine relieved herself during the last 3 days...it's not IN the nest persay- where the eggs and chicks are. She kinda went up and out with it. Yes, I realize that's gross, and I'm sorry. There is some that the chicks can get to, and I noticed the silkie climbing in that general area. i don't want to move mom yet to clean up, so for now I just put a handfull of shavings over the dried poo cake. Will that be okay, or do I need to do what I can to remove the poo before the chicks eat it or something?!?!
Poor momma- guess she couldn't hold it!
Today my black silkie hatched 2 out of 5 eggs she has been sitting on. My husband called in to me and said do you know you have baby chicks out here? He is rarely in the hen house. I ran out to see and she had the cutest 2 little ones peeking out. Earlier today I noticed a discarded egg and for good reason it was completely bad. I pulled her out with the little ones. I put her in a box in the house and with all the other little ones and she took to them like they hers. So instead of having 2 she has about 8 plus 3 that haven't hatched yet. She has been in with her rooster and another silkie hen so I didn't want to take any chances that something unfortunate would happen. I have another hen in the garage that should have little ones showing up just any day now.
