We have five Blue Marans eggs sitting under a lovely Buff Orp hen. Two started pipping and hatching late yesterday afternoon. One had fully hatched by bedtime. Didn't want to do too much disturbing this morning, but we think another one hatched overnight. Can't wait 'til lunchtime to run home and check on progress with the rest.
Congrats on all of the others on this thread. Very eggciting!
My broody just got done hatching her staggered clutch =o) In total there were 17 eggs. Wednesday 2 hatched and she was down to 2 eggs. Last night 1 was out and this morning the last one was out, so we rushed the 2 from Wednesday back under her. They are all black EE. I can't wait to see her out in the yard with them =o)
Boy oh boy! Broody momma's all over the place! Anyone got any new chicky pics?
Gesine and her chicks have been on two field trips out to the yard- I think Monday I'll give them their first dose of the established flock- with the protection of a barrier
I'm waiting for Mama B to let me see them well enough to get a shot. I think she has 6.... I think. I do need new pics of Mama S as well. She is too proud of her 2.5 week olds, strutting them around.
ok, mama has 5 babies. We watched her teach them to eat, now she is outside with them teaching them to dust bathe. One of them looks like a chipmunk.
Pics later. That brings the new Sumatra chick total to 30 new little ones. 9 from Broody's. With another broody hatch due next week! Mothers Day breakfast, then paint the duck coop.

Wow, this is so cool. She is a beautiful hen too. It's still too cold for them to be able to do that up here. Hopefully it will keep getting warmer. I had our Rouen duck hen adopt our mallard babes, that was interesting. They follow her around but go right back in the garage instead of going in to the hen/duck yard.
